1 JOURNEY. 1 RECOVERY. 1 HOME.

Mya first came to The Bridge with her pit bull, Onyx, after running into medical bill debt. Although Mya was working, she was not making enough income to pay for her housing and other bills. When her living arrangements with a relative fell through, she and Onyx were suddenly homeless.

As one of the only shelters in North Texas with a kennel, Mya chose to come to The Bridge. Not knowing what to expect, she came to The Bridge and was grateful to be welcomed with hope, care, shelter, and food. For the first time, Mya felt empowered to take control of her life, and The Bridge provided the services to help her do that. It was a big relief for Mya to not have to worry about the cost of housing, food, vet expenses, and having a place for Onyx to stay while she focused on earning income and working with staff to overcome her barriers. Her Care Manager, Patrice, gave her all the resources she needed along the way including bus passes to get to work and enrollment in The Bridge's Rapid Rehousing program.

Mya is now employed at a new stable job making a larger income and is living in an apartment with Onyx. She is actively working to become debt-free and self-sufficient once the support from The Bridge ends. Mya is now free to dream of owning her own home one day so Onyx can have a yard to run around in.

Our donors make it possible for Guests like Mya end their homelessness.
